General Manager Couple/Individual - Provincetown

Lark Hotels is seeking a full-time, year-round live-in management couple for our newest hotel, located in Provincetown, MA. With 30 guest rooms and majestic views of the moors this is a perfect place to relax and spend endless summer nights.

We are seeking a high energy couple who can assume responsibility for all hotel activities, who have presence and poise in relating to guests, and who possess the organizational and computer skills necessary to manage the office. We are seeking a hard-working, forward-thinking and honest couple who can learn quickly, communicate effectively with us, and offer first-class hospitality while being attentive to the needs of the business. We will offer training.

The manager couple is to perform all duties of running the property: i.e. guest reservations, hospitality and concierge service, preparation and service of a small plate gourmet breakfast baskets for hotel guests, bed making and laundry, property maintenance, gardening, purchasing and cost control, some accounting of revenue and expenses, and participation in annual renovation projects.

Requirements include exceptional interpersonal skills, polished telephone and email skills, superior attention to detail, computer and organizational skills, some housekeeping and maintenance skills, and the abilities to multi-task, take initiative, and to employ situational thinking. Must be willing to be trained, show excellent follow-through, and be comfortable giving and receiving feedback. Having baking training or formal cooking experience and/or handyperson experience are qualities that would make applicants more attractive to us and that would be utilized at the hotel.This job requires a full-time commitment. Applicants must be familiar and comfortable with the demands of a 24/7 job.

This is a seasonal property, closing at the end of the October, at which time a complete renovation will be done over the winter months.

The manager couple is expected to expedite and support housekeeping, do laundry, supervise and work with the housekeepers to assure that quality standards and timeliness expectations are met. Housekeepers typically work a 30 - 36 hour week over 6 days during the highest occupancy months. The manager couple will be supported by a staff including housekeepers and guest services associates.

Our hotel is non-smoking. We expect that the manager couple will model this by being non-smokers.

Human Resources Assistant

Lark Hotels is looking for an HR assistant to handle a variety of personnel related administrative duties. Your role is to act as the liaison between the HR director and employees, ensuring smooth communication and prompt resolution of all queries. You will also support our daily HR activities and assist in coordinating HR policies, processes and relevant documents.

Our ideal candidate holds an academic HR background and has previous work experience with Human Resources Management. Familiarity with our industry is also an advantage. For this role, you should be able to work autonomously and assist in more complex HR duties, like posting job ads, coordinating interviews and contacting candidates. Ultimately, you should be able to ensure that our HR department is organized and operates to attract, hire and maintain our employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day to day operations of the HR functions and duties
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to Human Resources director
  • Compile and update employee records (hard and soft copies)
  • Process documentation and prepare reports relating to personnel activities (staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations etc)

Lark Hotels is seeking a full-time, year-round General Manager for a 60-100 room boutique hotel, located in Brooklyn, New York.

We seek a high energy individual who can assume responsibility for all hotel activities, who has presence and poise in relating to guests, and who possess the organizational and computer skills necessary to manage the office. We are seeking a hardworking, forward-thinking and honest individual who can learn quickly, communicate effectively with us, and offer first-class hospitality while being attentive to the needs of the business. The manager will perform all duties of running the property: i.e. overseeing all employees including front office manager, housekeeping/laundry manager, and engineer, as well as assisting with guest reservations, hospitality and concierge service, property maintenance, purchasing and cost control, some accounting of revenue and expenses, preparation for holiday events, and participation in annual renovation projects. The on property restaurants and bars will be managed by our Food & Beverage partner and the GM will be the main point of contact for this group and act as liaison between Lark and the F&B partner.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Hotel Management

  • Proven ability to meet revenue goals and adhere to budgets

This job requires a full-time commitment. Applicants must be familiar and comfortable with the demands of a 24/7 job. Although management support will be readily available to answer questions and provide input, the General Manager is expected to assume responsibility for any issues or tasks that arise related to the operation of the hotel and maintenance of the building, though all of those items may not be named in this description. The manager is expected to utilize all skills that they possess to operate the hotel to the best of their ability.

As a management company, we are not involved in the on-site daily operations of the hotel or restaurant, however, we will make scheduled trips to New York to check in and meet with you. Lark Hotels conducts the bill payment, budgeting, revenue and expense management, marketing, website maintenance, property improvement planning, and issues that arise that are most appropriately handled by the management company. Although we are not on-site, we review most reservations via our online reservation system, we monitor purchasing when we receive invoices and receipts, and in general we like to keep close tabs on what is happening at the property. Because of this, it is important that the manager be able to communicate with us in a clear and positive manner. While we are  always interested in hearing new ideas and suggestions from the GM, it is important that the overall operation of the hotel remain consistent with our expectations. We hope that the manager brings their own personality and creativity to the hotel, and expect that this is balanced with continuity in the hotel experience from one management team to the next.

The Inn was updated in 2016 but there are always some ongoing or somewhat deferred maintenance issues that we will ask you to work on.

During the high season the Assistant Manager will help hire and train housekeepers who perform the heavier cleaning duties. You will be expected to make beds, replace amenities as well as supervise and work with the housekeepers to assure that quality standards and timeliness expectations are met. The housekeepers work varying shifts during the week; if there are no housekeepers on the schedule due to low occupancy the managers do all of the housekeeping. Due to our location, occupancy in the quiet season months (November through April) is much lower, and therefore the managers are responsible for all housekeeping in the quiet season. During the winter months, the Inn will be closed Monday through Wednesday. We hope that the assistant manager can communicate with the general manager in a clear and positive manner.

The manager is to perform all duties of running the property:  i.e. overseeing all employees including rooms manager, restaurant manager, housekeeping/laundry manager, as well as helping out with guest reservations, hospitality and concierge service, property maintenance, purchasing and cost control, some accounting of revenue and expenses, preparation for holiday events,  participation in annual renovation projects, and oversight of the onsite restaurants, bars and event space.  The restaurants and bars  will have a chef restaurant manager but the GM will have oversight of the entire property.

This job requires a full-time commitment.  Applicants must be familiar and comfortable with the demands of a 24/7 job.  Although management support will be readily available to answer questions and provide input, the manager is expected to assume responsibility for any issues or tasks that arise related to the operation of the hotel, restaurant and maintenance of the building, though all of those items may not be named in this description.  The manager is expected to utilize all skills that they possess to operate the hotel and restaurant to the best of their ability.

As a management company, we are not involved in the on-site daily operations of the hotel or restaurant, however, we make scheduled trips to Salem to check in and meet with you.  Lark Hotels conducts the bill payment, budgeting, revenue and expense management, marketing, website maintenance, property improvement planning, and issues that arise that are most appropriately handled by the management company.  Although we are not on-site, we review most reservations via our online reservation system, we monitor purchasing when we receive invoices and receipts, and in general we like to keep close tabs on what is happening at the property.  Therefore it is important that the manager be able to communicate with us in a clear and positive manner.  While we are interested in hearing new ideas and suggestions from the management couple/individual, it is important that the overall operation of the hotel and restaurants remain consistent with our expectations.  We hope that the manager brings their own personality and creativity to the hotel, and expect that this is balanced with continuity in the hotel experience from one management team to the next.

Compensation includes salary, as well as a stipend after the first 6 months of employment.  

Our hotel is non-smoking and not pet friendly.  We expect that the manager will model this by being a non-smoker.  

The manager is given 14 days of vacation time per year during a period when the hotel may either be closed or during the slower season.
