Maine may be known for its great craft beer, but with so many great restaurants, there's always been a great wine scene too. In the past couple of years, a number of restaurants have opened with strong wine programs, showing off new and old world varietals, as well as the increasingly popular natural wine.
To celebrate the rich wine scene of Portland, Maine, our friend and partner at Wine Wise, sommelier Erica Archer, founded Portland Wine Week in 2018. This year, the week runs from June 17-23, 2019 at restaurants and bars in and around Portland. From wine dinners and tastings to seminars and cooking classes, there's an exciting agenda planned. Participating restaurants include some of Portland's best—Evo, Chaval, Piccolo, Solo Italiano, Lolita, Central Provisions, and Gross Confection Bar.
New this year is a "Women in Wine" track at the Falmouth Country Club all day on June 17th. With a seminar, lunch, happy hour, and a grand opening chefs' pairing, five women chefs and ten women sommeliers will present an incredible selection of wine and food, all while sharing their experiences of working in the world of wine. It's sure to be a great way to kick off the week. Free transportation will be provided from the Portland Press Hotel to the Falmouth Country Club, so you need not worry about driving.
