Just over a year old, Counter, the modern American restaurant on Salem’s bustling Essex Street pedestrian mall, is still considered to be one of the new restaurants in Salem. Following a brief closure this March, for new menu testing and a handful of renovations, Counter's current lunch and dinner service has been replaced with a more laid-back menu reflecting the classic and distinctive style of lunch counters of the 1950s and 60s.
Located on the street level of The Hotel Salem (right on Essex Street), Counter's signature Industry Burger remains a staple on the menu, accompanied by creative seasonal soups, salads, sandwiches, and a selection of handmade pasta dishes during dinner hours. Counter has also expanded into offering breakfast daily, from 7:00am to 11:00am, which includes regularly-changing sweet and savory baked goods and a handful of breakfast sandwiches and bowls to offer a heartier start to the day. The refreshed space provides a communal gathering place for travelers and locals alike.
Open daily for coffee and breakfast from 7:00-11:00am, Counter now also offers an all-day menu available every day beginning at 11:30am, serving drinks until 4:00pm on Monday and Tuesday nights, and until 11:00pm Wednesday through Sunday.
